Knox County Exhibition Rules
Who May Exhibit
1. The Knox County Junior Fair shall include the following youth organizations: 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, FCCLA, and Junior Grange. The completion of member evaluation/project judging is required before a Junior Fair exhibitor can participate in any Junior Fair competition at the fair or receive premiums for exhibiting individual project work.
2. Exhibitors living inside the Knox County boundaries but belong to a non 4-H organization outside the county boundaries are still eligible to exhibit at the Knox County Junior Fair. However, they must follow all rules and deadlines as stated.
3. All Junior Fair enrollment (including 4-H/FFA/Scouts) for fair participation is due in the Ohio State University Extension Office by deadline of March 15 (unless March 15 falls on Saturday or Sunday then the deadline shall be the following Monday) annually. Exhibitors must be enrolled in the project area(s) by this time or will be considered ineligible for fair participation (no exceptions).
4. Boys and girls affiliated with those organizations in Knox County are eligible to exhibit subject to the rules of their respective organizations. Junior Fair exhibitors shall not exhibit any project work or supervised agricultural experience work for one Junior Fair organization that was completed for credit and /or exhibit for any other Junior Fair organization or school assignment. Duplicate projects cannot be taken in two or more Junior Fair organizations during the same project /school year, including 4-H and FFA membership in multiple counties.
5. Tampering or altering an official Junior Fair document will result in IMMEDIATE loss of all Junior Fair exhibition, showing, sale and participation in extracurricular activities and Junior Fair privileges. Participation in Junior Fair Shows and activities are reserved for Junior Fair exhibitors who are enrolled with the Junior Fair program by March 15 of the current year. Only officially enrolled exhibitors may participate and compete for awards and recognition in official, competitive Junior Fair shows and or activities.
6. No youth 19 years of age, as of January 1 of the current year may exhibit in the Junior Fair. This applies to all youth organizations represented in the Junior Fair.
7. All exhibitors must show their own project to receive ABC grade and premium with two exceptions:
a. Medical reason approved by the Junior Fair Coordinator.
b. Showing in another Knox County Junior Fair Show.
If a replacement is necessary, a current Knox County Junior Fair Exhibitor may show the animal if approved, by the start of the show.
8. Parents and advisors are not permitted in the Show Ring during the show, unless in case of emergency.
Project Requirements
1. Products exhibited must be from projects carried in a Junior Fair organization and must be the property of the exhibitor. ALL EXHIBITS MUST BE CURRENT YEAR PRODUCTS. The same product cannot be exhibited more than one year, except in the livestock breeding projects and dairy market feeders.
2. All animals must be in the care of and fed by the exhibitor from May 1, 2007 until release time, unless otherwise stated in the individual specie sections.
3. Project requirements will be listed within the project requirements booklet. Specific criteria will be followed in evaluating project materials. Livestock projects that are unable to show at the fair (due to illness/death) may be judged as a poster project at Livestock Interview judging along with the project and record books to be eligible to receive a still exhibit premium.
4. Quality Assurance is a mandatory educational process for all livestock exhibitors to exhibit at the fair. See Livestock Requirement Summary for dates and times.

6. Livestock Interview Judging is a mandatory interview process for all livestock exhibitors to exhibit at the fair. Exhibitors must bring their project book(s) (4-H/FFA), record books, a feed tag or list of ingredients from their feed ration and other supportive material to Livestock Interview Judging. 7. Leasing - Horses and Llama/Alpacas are the only animals that may be leased.
Lease guidelines are available from the OSU Extension office and must be turned in by June 1, 2007.
On the Fairgrounds - Exhibition Rules
1. All precautions shall be taken to prevent INJURY OR THEFT of exhibits. However, neither the Senior Fair Board nor Junior Fair Board will be responsible in either case.
2. All animals must enter the west gate and be inspected on the truck by the Knox County Fair Veterinarian. Animals will not be allowed to be penned without being checked. Exhibitor is responsible for seeing that the veterinarian has checked all animals. Veterinarians will be on duty Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This will be enforced. Animals may not enter the fairgrounds except at above-mentioned hours.
3. Any animal brought to the fair that does not match the entry and registration material filed in the OSU Extension office will be disqualified and asked to be removed from the fairgrounds.
4. Registration papers must be furnished on request for all registered animals.
a. Exhibitors may show an animal registered under a brother/sister name.
b. No animal, shown as a non-market project, shall be advertised or sold prior to the completion of the project or before the end of the
fair.
5. Feeding, Watering and General Animal Care
a. Each exhibitor is responsible for the care and feeding of his/her animals at all times.
b. Each exhibitor must furnish all the feed and feeding/watering equipment for his/her animals.
c. Each exhibitor is responsible for providing plenty of clean, fresh water for his/her animal(s) daily.
d. Any animal not properly cared for as determined by the Senior Fair Board and/or fair veterinarian, shall be immediately removed from the fairgrounds, with all premiums forfeited and animal excluded from the auction.
Housing
1. All Junior Fair livestock must be housed in Junior Fair Buildings in the pre-assigned stalls or pens.
2. All animals not entered in the Junior Fair area must be housed in the open class area.
3. No animal entries over and above the number permitted to show will be weighed or housed on the fair grounds.
4. Exhibitors must clean out their pens or stalls before leaving.
5. Sawdust, wood shavings and straw will be permitted for livestock bedding.
Classes
1. Exhibitors with more than one animal/specie must declare at the weigh-in of the last animal which animal will sell.
2. No breed show will be held in market classes.
3. Over/underweight animals must show to receive premium, but are ineligible to compete for champion or reserve champion and are ineligible for the sale.
4. Unworthy entries may be disqualified for premiums by the judges or the Senior Fair Board.
5. A valid tattoo must be dry, healed and legible. The tattoo must match registration and/or entry form.
6. All dehorned and castrated (no viable testicular tissue) animals must be completely healed.
Quality Assurance
1. These rules are a supplement to rules already stated in other sections of the fair book.
2. All animal exhibitors except dog exhibitors must complete the annual Quality Assurance Program to exhibit.

Drug Use Notification
1. See Ohio's Livestock Tampering Exhibiting Rules Prohibited practices 901-19-04 and 901-19-06.
2. These rules are a supplement to rules already stated in other sections of the fair book.
3. All exhibitors of swine, market lambs, market beef, market dairy steers, dairy market feeders, all goats, dairy cows, tom turkeys, rabbit fryers and chicken broilers must turn in a completed Drug Use Notification form for each animal at time of weigh-in or barn check-in.
4. United Producer's Livestock requires all exhibitors of ruminant animals (market beef, dairy cows in milk, market dairy steers, dairy market feeders, dairy goats in milk, market goat and market lambs) to fill out a feed additive statement to be turned in at weigh-in or barn check-in.
Admission
Passes/wrist bands will be distributed to JUNIOR FAIR MEMBERS who are 12 years and over, and to Adult Advisors (proper identification will be required). Wristbands will be distributed at fairgrounds on Friday, July 20, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 21, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Youth 11 and under are admitted free.
Entries
4-H and FFA members with livestock projects must go to the Knox County OSU Extension Office on one of the following dates to fill out fair entries:
June 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon
June 14 from 4 to 7 p.m.
June 20 from 1 to 5 p.m.
Junior Exhibitors May Show in the Senior Fair By:
1. Purchasing an exhibitor's ticket and paying the entry fee if showing under their parent's, family or farm name.
2. Paying the entry fee only if showing one or two entries.
3. Purchasing an exhibitor's ticket and paying the entry fee if three or more animals are entered.

(C) Exhibitors wishing to show their Market Hog in the Open Show shall be by their pen on Wednesday at 7 a.m. and/or Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Non Animal Exhibits
(A) Must all be removed from the buildings by Saturday 2:00 p.m.
Judging
1. Exhibits will be graded "A, B or C" and ribbons awarded on that basis. In livestock exhibits, the contribution of the showman is considered and included in the final grade.
2. Premiums will be paid based upon the exhibits grade and the grade received from the livestock interview and/or book judging.
Premiums
1. Premiums will be paid to Junior Fair exhibitors who have the required exhibit displayed, project registered with an active Junior Fair organization, the appropriate entry submitted by the deadline date, required interview judging completed and the project shown in the required class (all livestock).
2. Exhibits shown under one class number will not receive a premium under any other class number in the Junior Fair.
3. Exhibitors may receive premiums for a maximum of FOUR (4) large livestock (dairy, horses, beef, sheep, swine, llama and goat) classes in the Junior Fair. ANY number of miscellaneous entries can be made, providing they are a part of the exhibitor's project.
4. Junior Fair members who do not show or display at the fair do not receive premiums or a fair pass.
5. In 4-H, a premium will be paid for a "member evaluation" grade.
6. Parents or advisors may pick up premiums.
7. Premiums will be paid only at the fair during scheduled hours.
8. Premiums for animal grades will be available 48 hours after the exhibitors' last show.
9. Pre-Fair livestock interview judging will be conducted for all livestock projects and will affect premiums, as follows:
An "A" Grade - No difference
A "B" Grade - Lower premium $.50
A "C" Grade - Lower premium $1.00
10. Premiums and awards may be withheld from those exhibitors who fail to follow junior fair rules and keep pens clean.

Premium Pay Schedule
Premiums will be paid out of pay station located in the FFA Building according to the following schedule:
Saturday, July 19, 2008 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday, July 22, 2008 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m.
Thursday, July 24, 2008 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Friday, July 25, 2008 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 26, 2008 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Awards
1. Award needs and class make-up are determined by the entry cards filled out at the Knox County OSU Extension Office by June 20.
2. Awards will be given to at least the Grand and Reserve Champion of all breeds and species in non-market classes.
3. Awards will be given to exhibits with an "A" grade only.
4. Special awards may be given if approved by Junior Fair Coordinator.
5. Breed classes with less than three entries will be combined into the "other breed" class.
6. Anyone interested in sponsoring a trophy should contact Yvonne Clutter at 427-3380.
Staying Overnight
Note: Parents will be responsible for Junior Fair exhibitors staying overnight on the grounds. Exhibitors may stay if all of the following conditions are met:
1. Only exhibitors of livestock may stay overnight.
2. There must be adult supervision in the barn.
3. Exhibitors may stay only if their livestock is on the grounds.
4. Exhibitors must stay in the same barn their animal is housed in only if there is adult supervision that is approved by Senior Fair Board.
5. The exhibitor must display a qualifying Overnight Pass. Permission forms to receive the overnight pass must be turned in by July 18, 2007 to the Knox County OSU Extension office. For security reasons, no late permission forms will be accepted.
Showmanship Contest
1. Age in these departments is the member's age as of January 1 of the current year.
2. Showmanship classes will be determined by the number of entries; however, the following guidelines will apply:
First Year Showmanship - Exhibitors 11 years old or younger and showing specie for the first time.
Junior Showmanship - Exhibitors 11 years old and younger
Intermediate Showmanship - Exhibitors 12 to 14 years old
Senior Showmanship - Exhibitors 15 years old and older
Master Showmanship - Overall winner of each species showmanship competition
3. Showmanship entries must be made by June 20, 2008.
4. An exhibitor may win showmanship in more than one specie a year.
5. An exhibitor must show his/her own project.
7. Show order will be posted prior to the show.
8. Species not having a separate showmanship show will start with showmanship.
Showman of Showmen Competition
1. Current winners of the Master Showmanship classes may participate in the of Showmen contest.
2. If a participant has won Master Showmanship in more than one species in the current year, he/she will choose which specie to represent in the contest.
3. Each participant must show all species offered.
4. Late arrivals will not participate.
5. In the event a first-place master showman declines participation, the second place master showman in that specie is eligible to participate in the competition.
6. Copies of rules and regulations will be presented to each winner at each specie show when they receive their specie showmanship trophy.
7. The winner must indicate on the official form if he/she is going to participate in the Showman of Showmen competition by 10:00 a.m. the following day. Forms are to be turned into the Junior Fair Board Office.
8. In event of unavailability of specie of animal, the Showman of Showmen Committee will, at their discretion, provide an alternative means of judging that specie or omit that species.
9. Species may be divided into small and large animal divisions.
10. Awards will be determined by the committee.
Grievances
1. All complaints or grievances must be signed and presented to the Junior Fair Coordinator. Complaint forms can be obtained at the Junior Fair Board Office.
2. See Rule Violations section of the Knox County Fair Book.
3. Damage to the fairgrounds property committed by a Junior Fair exhibitor my also result in premium removal and possible payment for damages. Serious violations may cause the exhibitor and/or the exhibitor's family to be barred from showing in future Knox County Fairs. Unless fraud and/or deceptions are involved, all championship placings will stand.
4. Repeat violators will be barred from future Junior Fair participation.
5. Grievances must be accompanied by a $100 non-refundable fee. Fee will be returned if grievance is granted. Forfeited fees will be donated to the Junior Fair Board.
